A major challenge so many people face is difficulty in expressions of feelings or needs. A lot have died in silence while many are still dying and suffering in silence. The very funny popular saying; “a closed mouth is a closed destiny” is a very true one. Lots of people have missed great and powerful opportunities due to inability to express their needs. It’s not impossible that so many people have been scorned, disappointed and even embarrassed by friends or relatives while trying to express a need or making requests, and as a result, vowed never to open up to anyone again. Well, I believe strongly that living in the past is another dangerous decision that can keep one in perpetual darkness. Your past experience is not a perfect indication of the future, living with the hurts of the past only makes you a slave of the past. As a little boy while growing, I had so many questions in my mind, I desired explanations for so many events. I was so inquisitive, I always asked questions both in school and church. My desire for explanations was so high that so many of my teachers started shunning me! I was told I was too talkative, comments on my report sheets were always about how inquisitive I was. Little did I know that I was building so much intelligence. However, many of my elders started discouraging my inquisitive mind, they said I was troublesome, I was told I asked too many questions. So the passion to ask questions declined and I became so reserved and quiet. I decided to keep to myself, I asked myself questions and gave myself answers since older people didn’t want to answer me. The so called foolish questions filled my heart and I gave foolish answers to myself. I made a whole lot of mistakes and became depressed. For a long time, we were fed with an erroneous impression about the Holy Spirit. We were told that He leaves anytime we sin or make mistakes. So many of us were baptized into the pool of this error, we believed the Holy Spirit is such an aggressive being, a no nonsense person. The most terrific figure of the Trinity. The one who never forgives if he’s offended. We were made to see the Holy Spirit in a wicked form. Also when we hear anyone claiming to have a word from the Spirit, we tremble with fear believing everything single thing the person said, even if they were junks, errors and lies. We believed that the Holy Spirit was meant for the serious looking folks or those who dress in a religious way. We thought the Holy Spirit was for the few believers, the very committed church goers. I spent several years trying to unravel the mystery behind financial and material prosperity. I asked myself why a lot of people are still poor despite the prayers for wealth, declarations of faith, business and financial summits, nights of prophetic declarations for wealth and several other strategies and means used in church to increase wealth and make more money. Recently I received an understanding of a key principle in the scripture. A lot of people want to make more money, increase wealth and operate in abundance  yet their hearts are far away from the one who gives power to get wealth.  God is so loving yet just. He relates with our hearts and not our declarations. If the heart and motive is wrong, answers to prayers might be delayed . It is true that God desires that we should work in spiritual and financial blessing but the question is whether our hearts are rightly aligned to God or not. A man can not live beyond the abundance that dwells in his heart. He is a product of his heart. A man’s heart is influenced and filled by what a man is taught, what he consistently focuses on and what he meditates upon. When a man is doing well or experiencing evil, check these variables for as a man thinketh in his heart, so he is. The devil is a very cunning. He knows that the mind has great influence on both the spirit and the body of any mind, thus so he targets the mind to corrupt it. The devil does not have power over the recreated human spirit which has been sealed by the Holy Spirit. But the mind is an open field which has easy access to both the spirit and the body. Fear and depression are two powerful tools the devil uses against believers, when a man is trapped in the bandage of fear and depression, he becomes a prey to the devil. Our culture is one of our greatest heritage. However, it has become a great threat to an accurate understanding of the thoughts and ways of God . It’s clearly written by the Prophet Isaiah that the ways and thought pattern of man is different from God’s. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah:55:8-9 You will miss so much when your understanding of God is influenced by the tradition or custom of the society. Culture is great and beautiful, I so much celebrate this wonderful heritage. However, when it comes to Spiritual things, I believe culture has little or no point to contribute.
